On her way out the door, former Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen pledged American taxpayers to an additional $4 billion for the World Bank’s International Development Association. – known as IDA21. This is on top of the $3.5 billion contribution she pledged and was authorized by Congress in 2023 for IDA20.
IDA is one of the many World Bank Group organizations which never have enough of taxpayers’ money. The World Bank is now 81 years old. Yet it claims its needs are greater than ever. Its IDA affiliate is 65 years old. And its mission remains unfulfilled.
President Trump should make no request of Congress for authorization of IDA21. Further, his budget should make no request for funding for IDA20, the funds for which have not been fully appropriated. Let it stop now.
